Rock Climbing in Finale Ligure

From late Autumn through to early Spring Finale offers sunshine and limestone on the Mediterranean coast, while only a few hours away the Alps are deep under snow. On the Italian coast between Genova and the French border, this is a largely undiscovered climbing area.

You climb, we sort out the rest. Let us know your preferences for transport and accommodation, so that when you arrive we’ll give you the keys and you’re set to go. If you’re on your own leave a note on the message board below to find partners.

Climbing

Limestone crags stretch for kilometres down every valley, with everything from pocketed slabs, technical vertical faces to steep overhung walls dripping with tuffas. There are grades to keep everyone engaged, from French 5 to 8a, mostly on 25-35m high crags. Pianarella is a 600m face with 32 well bolted multipitch routes offering everything in style from juggy overhangs to technical walls. Twelve quickdraws, a 60/70m single rope, and a couple of slings and screw gates if you want to do multipitch, is all that’s necessary.

Climate and period

Finale has a sunny, dry climate year-round, making it possible to climb from autumn through to spring. The summer tends to be far too hot.

Area

With its Mediterranean vegetation and sea air, this place has a real holiday feel to it. The small town of Finalborgo is a hub for Italian climbers who fill the cafes and climbing shops before and after their day’s climbing. With its old town walls, cobbled streets and central piazza, it’s an enjoyable place to relax. There are a variety of very good Italian restaurants; we will recommend a few!

What we can offer

We can book you into local agriturismi all tried and tested by us, some of which offer abundant and superb home produced and cooked breakfast and dinner. We can arrange a hire car, which is recommended to make the most of your trip.

We can send you the guide book before you arrive so that you can make plans and will also point out the best areas/where to go if it’s windy etc. If you don’t know anyone who’s free to take a holiday when you are, leave a note on the message board to find partners.

Please book no less than 2 weeks in advance.

Prices

These depend on the options you choose. Here is a rough guide of what to expect for a week (7 days, 8 nights). The price is per person for two people and includes a hire car and half board accommodation: 555 Euros.

For a long week-end: 180 Euros.

    How to get here

Genova is the closest airport, about 45mins drive away. Altrenatively Milan and Turin are both about two hours drive away.

Hi! We are three Swedish climbers on our way down to Finale for two weeks climbing, but we have a hard time finding accomodation. A cheap hotel, hostel, renting a flat, etc. would be our first choice. If you have any useful information on where to turn, please contact me! Greetings!
