Ice Climbing in Cogne
Cogne is a world renowned centre for ice climbing found in the beautiful high mountain setting of Gran Paradiso National Park. With over 100 routes there’s enough to keep you busy here for a long time.
From the village of Cogne (1500m), two long valleys open up, the sides of which form a great number of frozen falls each winter. These range from grades 3 to 6 and from single pitch to 600m routes. The area is also a growing centre for mixed climbing and dry-tooling, which is becoming increasingly popular.
The best months are generally from January to March.
What we offer
Once in Cogne, the best way to approach the falls is with the use of snowshoes or cross country skis (15minutes-2hours). For this reason we suggest that it isn’t necessary to hire a car; we can provide an airport pick-up and drop off service to and from Cogne.
We will also ensure you are booked into the local accommodation of your choice (hotel or self-catering) and hire any equipment you require, as well as providing you with the guide book, which we can post to you in advance if required. For updates on conditions and weather see our blog.
