Alpinism in Valle d’Aosta

Valle d’Aosta is in the western Italian Alps on the border with France and Switzerland; the area offers a huge choice of fantastic routes for alpinists of all levels. The valley is home to many of the Alp’s highest and best known mountains; the Matterhorn (4478m), Monte Rosa (4634m),Gran Paradiso (4061m) and Monte Bianco (4807m). Each of these groups has enough to keep you busy for many seasons.

The best months are June to Mid-September. For suggestions or to get an idea of how much there is to do here, take a look at our guided alpine trips.

Transport

It would be possible to arrange a trip here without hiring a car if, for example, you plan a week within the same massif and do several routes with approach from the same valley. We can make suggestions for such trips and arrange airport transfer. If however you prefer to be more independent, we can book a hire car for you.

Accommodation

Unless you plan to camp or bivouac, the most pressing aspect of any alpine ascent is securing a place in the huts on the routes you want to do, as they tend to get booked up well in advance. If you let us know which route(s) you’re planning to do, we can book the necessary huts for you. The earlier the better; in some cases (such as Monte Rosa) two months in advance if you want to be sure to find space.

As a base on the valley floor we can book you into the accommodation of your choice; camping, self-catering flats, half-board agrturismi or hotels.

Other services

We can send you maps and guide books in advance so that you can plan your trip, or make sure you have them on your arrival. If you have any questions or need beta, don’t hesitate to e-mail and ask. Our blog is constantly up-dated with the latest news and conditions.

If you want to find others to come on a trip with you, leave a message on the notice board.

Prices

These vary according to season and your preferences on how to plan the trip. If you let us know your requirements we will provide you with an estimate (contact us). Please book no less than two months in advance.
