5 days – level 3

This walk takes in some of the wildest and least frequented high passes of Gran Paradiso National Park. Past towering granite walls and beneath tumbling glaciers, it will be as if civilisation never existed. The symbol of the park is the ibex, a mountain goat characterised by the male’s large horns; sightings of these majestic animals are not uncommon in the higher undisturbed parts of the park through which we will travel. Overnight stops will be in mountain huts and bivouacs.

• Day 1 - Tolasio to San Giacomo. The first day takes us through alpine meadows to reach Lake d’Eugio with a descent into the peaceful valley of Piantonetto. 13Km 700m 600m
• Day 2 - We reach the wild and beautiful valley of Valsoera and scramble across the rocky col on its western flank; Bocchetta di Valsoera (2683m). Descend into the neighbouring valley where we overnight in Rifugio Pontese. 9Km 500m 1560m
• Day 3 - We walk past imposing granite towers to Colle dei Becchi (2990m) and descend beneath the glaciers of Gran Paradiso to Bivacco Ivrea. 8Km 220m 800m
• Day 4 - Today we wind our way across streams, past lakes and over Bocchetta des Ges (2692m) to reach Bivacco Giraudo. 15Km 750m 600m
• Day 5 - A final ascent to enjoy the spectacular views from Colle della Porta (3002m) before descending to Rifugio Mila and the main valley floor. 10Km 1500m 0m

Prices

These vary according to season; those below are approximate. If you let us know your requirements we can provide you with an exact figure (contact us). Prices include guide, half-board accommodation and all transport during the trip (including to and from the airport): 672 Euros.

How to get here

We will pick you up from the airport the day before your trip starts and take you to your accommodation. We will take you back to the airport the day after the trip ends. Of course if you wish to stay longer independently we can arrange an extended stay and airport transfer at a later date.
