This walk completes an exhilarating high-level traverse of the entire arc of mountains crowning the town of Biella. The lower peaks of the pre-alps in Piemonte allow us to scramble along their highest ridges from summit to summit with magnificent views throughout. The glaciers and snow covered peaks of the Monte Rosa massif lie to the north, while the Italian plains famous for their production of cheese, wine and risotto rice stretch into the distance to the south. Hut to hut overnight stops guarantee excellent home cooked Italian cuisine. The walking on this itinerary requires agility and a good head for exposure, since some sections are equipped with a via ferrate.

• Day 1 - Departure from the village of Piedicavallo up through the rugged Valle Mologna. for Rifugio Rivetti (2150m). 3hrs.
• Day 2 - Short ascent to Colle della Mologna Grande (2364m) from which we summit Monte dei Gemelli (2473m) and traverse to Rifugio della Vecchia (1872m). 6hrs.
• Day 3 - An ascent to Monte Cresto (2546m) is followed by an undulating high level ridge walk to Monte Camino (2391m) and Rifugio Capanna Renata.. 9hrs.
• Day 4 - Another exhilarating day in which we summit Monte Rosso (2374m) and Monte Mars (2615m) with a section of via ferrata. 6hrs.
• Day 5 - The final day we scramble across the long ridge leading to Mombarone (2300m). Descent to Biella. 6hrs.

Prices

These vary according to season; those below are approximate. If you let us know your requirements we can provide you with an exact figure (contact us). Prices include guide, half-board accommodation and all transport during the trip (including to and from the airport). We can also hire equipment if necessary: 680 Euros.

How to get here.

Milan and Turin are the closest airports, both just over an hours drive away.

We will pick you up from the airport the day before your trip starts and take you to accommodation close to your departure point for the next day. This will include an evening meal and breakfast. We will take you back to the airport the day after the trip ends. Of course if you wish to stay longer independently we can arrange an extended stay and airport transfer at a later date.
