In the western Italian Alps near the Swiss border, the  pre-alpine arc of the Alpi Biellesi permit walkers to enjoy its lakes, ridges and summits with 360 degree panoramas without encountering glaciers or snow.

Torrents lined by a mixed deciduous and coniferous woodland dominate the valley floors, which give way to pastures, meadows and more open and rugged alpine terrain above 1300m. As you rise, magnificent views of the snow covered peaks of the near by Monte Rosa massif come into view to the north and the Italian plains stretch into the distance to the south.

This part of the alps is also rich in cultural heritage. It is home to one of Europe’s most important Sanctuaries, Santuario Oropa, which dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries. Mountain villages are built with traditional dry stone methods, still with their original stone roof-tiles, village wash fountains and cobbled streets. The local cheese and wine production is also very good.

Each trip is assigned a level of difficulty according to the following criteria. Please let us know a bit about your walking back-ground when you enrol.

Level 1: For occasional walkers who enjoys seeing nature at its best.

Level 2: A reasonable level of fitness is required. These are trips for regular walkers and may include one day up to 8 hours long and 1200m height gain. Straight-forward terrain.

Level 3: A good level of fitness and agility on rugged terrain are required. May include short sections of via ferrata, up to 1500m height gain and consecutive long days.

Level 4: As for level three but includes one or more glacier crossings. No experience or equipment is necessary.
