3 days – level 2

Two great north faces in three days. The north face of Gran Paradiso is ascended entirely by ice and is a great classic. Ciarforon is a beautiful mountain right above the refuge. One-to-one ratio with the guide.

• Day 1 - Valsavaranche to Rifugio Chabod (2770m). 2 hrs. 870m
• Day 2 - Gran Paradiso north face (4061m). This is the most elegant way to the top of the range’s highest mountain. It ascends 600m of 60-80° ice (D) to the summit. Descent back to the valley floor. 2100m (4-5hrs) 1350m (6-8hrs)
• Day 3 - Ciarforon north face (3642m). Overlooking the refuge, this mountain could be described as a winter version of Half Dome in Yosemite; a beautiful dome of ice. After an hour’s approach our route covers 350m height gain on 60-70° ice. 6-7hr round trip.

Departures on demand in late May-early June. Please book no less than 2 months in advance.

Prices

These vary according to season; those below are approximate. If you let us know your requirements we can provide you with an exact figure (contact us). Price includes guide, half-board accommodation and transport during the trip: 1.480 Euros.

How to get here

Turin is the closest airport, about an hour’s drive away. Milan is another option which is about an hour and a half away. We can either arrange for you to be picked up from the airport or, more cheaply, give you details of how to get here by public transport. Please let us know your preferences once you have booked.
